Goldberg is a wrestler that has coasted for decades on two moves and two minute matches and it has worked surprisingly well for him. He also has the reputation of being extremely dangerous in the ring.
Other wrestlers pride themselves on telling a story without hurting their opponent. Since Goldberg is the man who continues to draw money he is somewhat protected. Even though he is clearly incompetent .. that hasn’t stopped other wrestlers from stepping into the ring with him.
Bret Hart’s career was ended by Goldberg after a botched kick to the back of his head during the Starrcade PPV in 1999. And Bret hasn’t stopped sounding the alarm since his retirement in 2000. He is almost made it one of his life’s missions to drag Goldberg every chance he gets. Recently he was on Stone Cold’s Broken Skull Sessions and had this to say
“I always knew what I was doing and I would hurt myself before I ever hurt another wrestler,” Bret said. “I just wish some of the wrestlers I worked with, especially at the end like Goldberg. Goldberg to me was one of the most unprofessional wrestlers there ever was in the business. For Bill Goldberg to be in the Hall of Fame… he hurt everybody he worked with, so he might as well wrestle a real gorilla.
“He was the most dangerous guy to work with. He hurt everybody he worked with. I remember Curt Henning being in pain all the time from the matches they had, and even when I worked with Bill… I always think, the last words I said to Bill before we went out and had that match where he injured, ended my career… I said, ‘Bill, whatever you do out there, don’t hurt me. Do whatever you want, we can do anything, just do not go nuts.”
Also a lot of fans love to call Bret a whiner but how would you feel if you have been working over 20 years and you just accepted the biggest payday of your career.
The job doesn’t last long because it prematurely ended due to your incompetent co worker, who is still doing the very thing that you still love. Not only does he show up whenever he wants but he still the top guy who makes millions. You are lying if you say that it wouldn’t bother you just a slight bit 20 years after the fact.
